Peppol eInvoicing network
The national eInvoicing framework. The ATO is the Australian Peppol Authority and accredits service providers, but it does not see invoices exchanged over Peppol.

eInvoicing by default (Commonwealth)
The Australian Government policy that makes Peppol eInvoicing the default invoicing channel for non-corporate Commonwealth entities, with ATO guidance and quarterly reporting to the Peppol Authority.
Peppol eInvoices · Official source: ATO · eInvoicing by default guidance
Australia's Peppol network carries invoices between businesses and government; it is not a tax clearance or reporting channel. A GST tax invoice sent over Peppol follows PINT A-NZ, and the PINT A-NZ specification page lists the current release. Australia and New Zealand share the specification and recognise each other's service provider accreditation, so check trans-Tasman trading partners against the same rules.
Suppliers to Commonwealth entities should expect eInvoicing to become the default under new and renewed contracts. The ATO's eInvoicing by default guidance explains what entities will ask of suppliers. State, territory and local governments set their own arrangements.
